Carys Martins pieces are Inspired by the meeting of the ocean waters, ocean foam and rocks on the shore.
Serving Bowl is 30cm in Diameter and 10cm deep.
This platter is wheel thrown and then once the clay is leather hard it is trimmed and the foot ring of the platter is made. The clay used in this piece is a beautiful textural stoneware clay that fires to a dark toast colour. Once the piece has dried slowly, it is biscuit fired, and then glaze fired. The glaze affect is achieved through layers of glazes combining to contrast against the raw clay.
This is a piece that takes many stages and processes to create and the end result showcases the care and love that has gone into its production.
All items are handmade with love over a number of weeks and fired in her studio in Thornlands in South East Queensland. The clay does not like to be rushed and needs time to dry slowly as each step in the making process is completed. Carys loves to wheel throw and also to hand build, so often use a combination of techniques. The glazes made are all hand made using tried and tested recipes, as well as her own recipes she has created to get the colours and textures she desired. The majority of finishes she uses have a number of glazes layered over each other to create a unique, one off original finish.
Food safe. Dishwasher safe but hand wash recommended.
